  The Britannia in downtown San Jose is the most recently opened bar of a chain of five pubs in the San Jose area. They try and sell the "British" concept, but it reality these are just regular American sports bars serving Bangers and Mash and Fish and Chips ! The downtown San Jose bar makes it onto the site mainly because it serves some decent beers, the staff are friendly, it's a great place to watch football (Soccer for the uneducated !) and they have some really awesome live music. The quality of some of the local bands is exceptional. On the beer front, they serve Anchor Steam, Sam Adams, Sierra Nevada, Boddingtons, John Courage, Bass etc etc. They also have some decent bottled imported beers. It's probably the best place in downtown San Jose to go and watch football. On the negative side, their web site is not so nice and is rarely updated and they don't publish details of the matches they are showing in advance, so you don't have a clue whether or not a particular game will be shown until they get their schedules, which is usually the day before a match is played. Anyway, if you want football, a decent pint and good live music in downtown San Jose, then this is the place to be.
