The Last Drop lies immediately below
and south of Edinburgh castle in the famous Grassmarket. The Grassmarket
is remembered as the location of the public
gallows, where many people passed from this life on to the next over
many years. The pub is
named, so they say, to commemorate the last hanging at the Grassmarket....
or the last "drop" !! There are many pubs in the Grassmarket area
and it's a very popular place to eat and drink, particularly at the
weekends
and in the summer time. The Last Drop is a very traditional old Scots
pub, serving great beers in common with most Edinburgh pubs. This
place is certainly worth
a visit though and don't forget Maggie Dixon's just a few doors along
the road.
