The Duvel cafe has been open for a
few years now and originated from bar and restaurant
at Freys Hotel just around the corner. There are basically two businesses,
the Duvel
Cafe and Pressklubben, both selling a wide range of excellent Belgian
beers and serving superb food to complement it. They are linked by
a small corridor at the back, so you can walk freely from one bar to
the other. The people at Duvel Cafe are really passionate about their
Belgian beer and I must admit that it was at Freys hotel that I originally
became hooked. The idea of eating good food with a bottle of beer rather
than wine
seemed alien to me at the time, but it didn't take too long for me
to realise what I had been missing. The only danger with drinking
Belgian beer with a four course meal is that you can become rather
tipsy by the end of the evening if you are not careful, but that's
Belgian beer for you. The Duvel Cafe is rather popular most nights,
but I still think there's many Stockholmers who have yet to see the
light. It's a great place to meet and talk and I have done that in
here many times over the years. It's a very special place for me, where
I have enjoyed some wonderful times with some very special people and
whenever in Stockholm, I always make an effort to come here. Where
would we be without memories ? So, the next time you are in Stockholm
and feel a little hungry or maybe just feel like a quiet beer, come
to the Duvel Cafe and picture me sitting at the end of the bar with
a great big smile on my face :-)
