Het Elfde Gebod, or the 11th Commandment
in English, is a superb little pub located
right next to the Central Station in Amsterdam, with "little" being
the important word here, but it really
does add to the atmosphere and anyone coming here will certainly remember
the occasion for many years to come. Their selection of Belgian and
Dutch beers is superb and the quality of service is second to none.
You might
be
forgiven
for
thinking
that this place has been here for years, but it was only recently opened.
It's oak panelled walls, with their wonderful carved figures look like
something from a forgotten age. This
place is certainly popular with the locals and tourists alike. I once
attended a Bok Bier festival
in the centre of Amsterdam and headed out here afterwards, only to
meet one or two guys from the festival in here too. They would rather
come here than spend the afternoon with the rest of the people on their
beer tour ! They also sell some lovely beer glasses too for just 1
Euro 50. A bargain at twice the price. The owner and bar staff are
very knowledgeable and exceptionally friendly. Het Elfde Gebod is quite
typical of the kind of pub you will find in the
backstreets
of
Amsterdam
and
I
intend
to
add
details
of other pubs to the site as soon as I have the time. Get there early
if you want a seat, but it's worth standing if you don't get there
early. Tell them Oslo Pubs sent you ! |
