You will see the word 'Pivnice' in several places in the Czech Republic as it translates to 'beer hall'. I even saw a hotel called the 'Pivnice Hotel' and I wonder what that place was like to stay at ! So, the Pivnice Radegast is basically a beer hall that sells Radegast ales, but they also sell other beers too. It actually looks like a converted cellar from the inside, but you are very much above ground. This place is in the heart of Prague and close to the Old Town square and is very popular with the locals. It's a typical and very traditional Czech 'brown bar' selling food and drink at typical Czech prices. The food here is excellent and you can eat a great meal here for around 25 NOK (2 Pounds). The pork strips can be highly recommended, but the pepper steak was also very tasty. Service was very good and English is widely spoken here in common with most Czech pubs. Beer is exceptionally cheap at around 20 Czech Crowns for half a litre of pilsner or dark beer, but if you simply ask for a dark beer without being specific about what you want by pointing to it on the menu, then they will always bring you a more expensive beer costing 40 Czech Crowns. Yes, it's still cheap, but twice the price of Radegast and I sometimes I felt like I was being ripped off. It was such a horrible feeling that we had to go back a second time :-) This place is a 'must visit' for any beer drinking visitor to Prague and is so close to all the attractions in the old town that it's silly not to go. It does get rather busy at times, so don't expect to find a table every time you come here.
