As an Englishman, I am rather partial
to the occasional curry, which is of course our national dish these
days. Well, it was either a curry
or fish and chips I guess, so it was an easy choice. However, I have
been rather disappointed with the selection and quality of Indian restaurants
throughout Scandinavia. I am originally from Birmingham, where you
find excellent quality Indian restaurants wherever you go, so the lack
of
good quality Indian food was a big problem for me. Mister
India became my saviour in Oslo. I eat here quite regularly and I have
a
big confession to make, I always have the same dish ! Yes, I know it's
crazy, but the simple fact is it's so good and if I tried something
else, I might not like it. There isn't another restaurant in the world
where I can honestly say I have the same dish every time I eat there.
It is very boring after all. Anyway, I hope the folks at Mister India
take that as a compliment. The dish ?? Oh yes...before I forget, it's
the Chicken Tikka Masalla, but I usually ask for the spicy version.
They will do mild and medium versions if you ask. The nan bread always
melts in your mouth and with the lime pickle, it's a real feast. I
always wash it down with a pint or two of authentic Indian Cobra, which
perfectly complements the meal. Who needs wine with a curry ? OK OK,
i'm sure someone does, so they have a reasonable wine list too ! The
staff are extremely friendly and helpful and for those who "experiment",
the menu covers all the usual dishes you might expect to see in an
Indian restaurant. The decor is very traditional and you feel as though
you might be a million miles away, as you sit there absorbing the atmosphere
and that gorgeous aroma coming from the kitchens. Booking is a good
idea, because this place is no secret and it does get busy, particularly
on Friday and Saturday nights. There
are one or two other good Indian Restaurants in Oslo, but I have not
found one better than this. Don't forget the Chicken Tikka Masalla
and tell them Oslo Pubs sent you ! |
