It would be easy for a visitor to miss La Maison du Café, as it's tucked away well off Winchester Boulevard. You might even struggle to find the place if you were actually looking for it ! However there's perhaps a good reason for that, as this French restaurant must be one of the best kept secrets in Silicon Valley. It has been around for a number of years now and has a loyal local following. From the moment that you enter, you know you are in for a special evening. The complementary apéritif is most welcome as you scan though the extensive menu. There's no doubt something there to suit everyone's taste, from mouth-watering appetisers, delicious entrees and carefully prepared and very tempting deserts. Desert is always something I try to avoid, but never at La Maison du Café. No matter how many times I tell myself that I really shouldn't, it's just something that I can't resist when it's put in front of me. The wine list is extensive, although many people choose to bring their own wine and pay the nominal corkage fee. The interior is cosy with wood lattices and frosted windows at the front, complemented with wonderful impressionist paintings and warmed with soft lights and candles. It's just the right size for a quiet evening for two or perhaps an important business meeting, but maybe not for a noisy office party ! The service is excellent or they would not be on this site, with extremely knowledgable and helpful staff. Their restrooms are located behind the kitchen, so you even have the opportunity to see your meal being prepared, which is something that appeals to me. I am suspect of restaurants that lock away their kitchens to the outside world. Booking is essential to avoid disappointment, as things can get a little crowded at times. There is plenty of room to park outside and directly in front of the restaurant too. I have never been here for lunch, but it's something that I have to do soon ! Make sure this restaurant is on your dining schedule whenever in Silicon Valley and tell them Oslo Pubs sent you. Bon appetit......
